How do I set up a rotating pattern?
In Family, add each person’s schedule. Choose rotating shifts, regular weekly hours, or no work schedule. Children need no account. Review sleep and recovery, then add school and other commitments in Calendar. New routines can start on a chosen date while earlier dates stay unchanged.
Can I add doctor or dentist appointments?
Calendar → Add event. Choose a date, time and everyone attending, including anyone driving. Repeat, travel, reminders and checklists are optional.
How do school, practices and rehearsals work?
Calendar → Add event. Choose a date, time and everyone attending, including anyone driving. Repeat, travel, reminders and checklists are optional.
Edit the person in Family and choose an effective date to preserve earlier routines. In Calendar, edit or cancel a recurring event for this date, this and future dates, or all dates. All-day and multi-day plans have explicit dates. Day off changes the shift starting on that date; the previous night shift and recovery still apply.
Can I compare just the parents?
Yes. On Together, tap the people at the top and choose any group of at least two. Your results and exported image use that same selection.
How do night shifts and sleep work?
Daily sleep applies on off days too. Night recovery adds protected time after an overnight shift; overlapping rest is counted once.
Daily sleep blocks the same clock hours every day. Before-shift buffers cover preparation or travel. After-shift recovery can protect daytime sleep after a night shift. These blocks are combined, so overlapping rest is never counted twice.
Why does a day off still show unavailable time?
A day-off exception removes the shift starting on that date. A night shift from the previous day, its recovery, daily sleep and personal plans can still block time.
Why do I see no shared windows?
Free time depends on what you enter. Review work, school, sleep and other plans for each person.
Together compares at least two people using their entered work, rest and events. Choose people and a minimum duration beside the next window. Plan this time prefills those people and hours. Comparison choices stay on your device and do not change calendar access.
What happens when clocks change or I travel?
All times follow your selected household time zone. Rotations advance by local calendar dates. Missing spring clock times move to the next valid time; repeated autumn end times use the later occurrence. Durations use elapsed time. Changing the household zone keeps your entered dates and clock times.
Can my household see and update the calendar for free?
Invite people at no extra charge. They can see the calendar and all lists, and set reminders on their own devices. Choose View only or Can edit for each person. Everyone uses their own iCloud account.
Choose a contact’s Apple Account email, review view-only or editing access, then create and send the link using Messages or Mail. Creating an invitation does not send it. People with access shows awaiting or accepted invitations and lets the owner send again, reduce access or remove someone.
Removing or reducing access remains available after a subscription ends.
Can we keep shopping lists, packing lists and to-dos?
Lists → New list. Start a grocery, packing, chore or project list using New list. Add items · Quantity (optional) · One item per line. Item details hold quantities, notes, assignments and due dates. Assignments do not send alerts. You can opt into a personal reminder at 9 AM on a task’s due date. Use a fresh copy for independent checkmarks, or link the same live list intentionally.
The owner can grant view-only or editing access and remove participants using Household sharing. All participants can read the entire shared calendar and all shared family lists, including attached lists. View-only members cannot check off items. Removing access prevents future updates but cannot erase copies someone already saved. Stop sharing & keep a local copy removes the owner’s cloud calendar. Guests can leave without deleting the owner’s copy.
Can an event have a list of what to bring?
Yes. In Calendar, add an event and open Checklist to enter items or attach an existing list. The event and new checklist save together. Event details open the list; a linked list opens its event. Use a fresh copy for independent checkmarks or the same live list intentionally. Repeating events can have a checklist for every occurrence or a chosen date. Deleting an event keeps the list and removes its link.
How do reminders work?
Family → Settings, billing & help → Notifications on this device → Reminders and notification privacy. Choose lock-screen details and allow notifications on each device. Event overrides affect only you. Tasks can optionally remind you at 9 AM on their due date; assignment and due dates alone send no alert. Reminders refresh after calendar changes. Open the app regularly for the next 30 days, up to 44 family reminders, with a separate allowance of 12 private reminders. iOS and Focus settings control delivery.
Will I know who changed the calendar?
Family → Settings, billing & help → Recent updates. Choose lock-screen details before enabling alerts. Related edits are grouped. Mute update alerts or Mute until tomorrow pauses change alerts without changing event reminders. Old updates do not replay when you unmute. New structured change records use the reader’s language; older records retain their original text. Editors choose a recognizable name. Updates appear after syncing; iOS may delay delivery.
What is included in the subscription?
An auto-renewing subscription is required to create and use your own family calendar and lists. Before subscribing, explore an example or join an invitation. Invited members have access at no extra charge, with viewing or editing permissions set by the owner. Eligible Apple Accounts receive a one-week free trial, then US $1.99 per month. Apple displays local pricing and eligibility before purchase. Cancel in Apple Account settings at least 24 hours before the trial or billing period ends to avoid renewal. Saved data is kept after access ends. subscription details.
How do I restore or cancel?
Use Settings → Trial & subscription → Restore purchases with the Apple Account used to subscribe. To cancel, use Apple Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Kinly. Deleting the app or resetting data does not cancel billing.
Where is my data?
The app keeps a protected local copy. When you enable sharing, the calendar is also stored in Apple’s CloudKit and visible to invited participants. Leave or stop sharing first, then use Reset saved data for personal data. Device backups follow your Apple settings. Exported images are snapshots and cannot be recalled. Read the privacy policy.
How do I start planning?
Choose Set up my family to add each person. Pick rotating shifts, regular weekly hours or no work schedule, then review sleep. Children need no account. Add school, practices and appointments in Calendar. Together shows the next shared window; Plan this time fills in its people, date and hours.
How do I change a repeating schedule?
Edit the person in Family and choose an effective date to preserve earlier routines. In Calendar, edit or cancel a recurring event for this date, this and future dates, or all dates. All-day and multi-day plans have explicit dates. Day off changes the shift starting on that date; the previous night shift and recovery still apply.
How do I find my invitation?
After choosing a contact’s Apple Account email and access, create the invitation and send the link through Messages or Mail. Creating the invitation does not send it. In People with access, awaiting invitations remain available to send again. Accepted status comes from iCloud. Owners can remove or reduce access even after subscription expiry.
How do I recover edits or use the app offline?
Unfinished editor drafts are kept privately on this device for their original calendar. Review recovered drafts when the saved item has changed. Saved shared edits wait for iCloud; after relaunch the app verifies account access before showing shared content. Conflicting fields can be reviewed without replacing unrelated edits. A private recovery copy is preserved before resolution. Use Join or recover a family calendar after reinstalling. Revoked guests cannot reopen cached household details.

Open support issues ↗Owner-approved Private Space
Private Space is available only to the owner and explicitly approved Apple Accounts. Private plans, standalone and linked lists, activity confirmations and change history use a separate restricted iCloud share. Family editing access does not grant private access. Private alerts show generic wording only. Private caches and recovery copies are encrypted on this device and excluded from device backups. Shared private areas require an online access check and a biometric or private PIN unlock. Devices using the same Apple Account share that account’s permissions.
The owner approves private View only or Can edit access separately after the person joins the family calendar. A private invitation must be accepted before access begins. New approval includes the existing private plans, lists and history. Removing family access through Kinly removes private access first. For changes made outside Kinly, the owner’s app reconciles the separate shares when it next connects. Previously exported images cannot be recalled.
In Private Space, choose Find time for us. Choose exactly two adult schedules and every child whose availability matters. Confirm activities where neither adult is needed, then add drop-off and pickup allowances. Both adults must be free while every selected child is occupied for the whole window. Sleep does not count as independent care. Recheck plans when schedules change.
Stopping sharing retains an encrypted private recovery copy on the owner’s device. Open Private Space → Private Space settings → Private recovery copies to restore into an empty private area or delete a copy. The original Apple Account is required for a cloud recovery copy. Reset saved data removes the current local private area; recovery copies have separate delete controls. Private plans and lists are never included in ordinary family exports.
Open Lists → Private Space or Together → Private Space to create a standalone shopping, packing, chore, project or to-do list. No event or time-finder setup is required. Only owner-approved Apple Accounts can see these lists. Everyone approved for this Private Space can see its plans, lists and history; there is no separate audience for each list. A child cannot see a Christmas list unless their Apple Account is approved for Private Space.
Event locations and Apple Maps
Add an optional place or address to an event. Tap Open in Apple Maps to search for that location. Kinly sends only the saved location text after you tap; it does not track your location or search while you type. Private locations require an unlocked Private Space and a confirmation before leaving Kinly. Maps has its own history and privacy controls.
Private plans, drafts and notifications
Create a private plan for any date with New private plan. Schedules are optional; creating a plan does not require a child schedule or time-finder setup. Find time for us separately compares two adults and, optionally, children whose independent activities you have confirmed.
Changed private forms offer Keep editing, Save draft and Discard. Drafts stay encrypted on this device, tied to the calendar and account. Unlock Private Space to resume them. Saving rechecks access and protects changes made by another member. Private lists support Undo, several items at once, fresh copies, pins and task filters.
Notifications on this device separates reminders from change alerts. Assigning a task does not notify anyone automatically. Personal task reminders arrive at 9 AM on their due date. Private alerts hide names, times and notes. Muting change alerts does not mute reminders or replay old updates when you unmute.
An optional place search sends your typed query to Apple Maps only after you choose Search. Private location lookup asks for confirmation first. Recent places remain within their family or private context. Kinly does not request your current location. Returning from Maps requires a private unlock.
